– 21 March to August (5 months)
On your application form please state which DTS you are interested in!
What is a DTS?
DTS stands for Discipleship Training School. It is what you might call YWAM’s ‘foundational ministry’ – everyone in YWAM has to do a DTS somewhere at some time before they can join staff in any YWAM ministry. There is always a ‘lecture phase’ to begin with (the ‘Know God’ part) and an ‘outreach phase’ to finish off (the ‘Make Him known’ part).
Each DTS is designed to do five things:
- 1. To GATHER and CHALLENGE people to worship, listen to and obey God, releasing them (in the context of the DTS) to serve through evangelism, intercession, acts of compassion and other expressions of God’s heart for the world, possibly even pioneering new ministries.
- 2. To INSPIRE and CULTIVATE growth in one’s relationship with God resulting in Christ like character, which is based on a solid Biblical foundation, the work of the Holy Spirit and the personal application of Biblical truth, especially concerning God’s Character, the Cross and empowering Grace.
- 3. To SHARPEN one’s ability to relate to, learn from and work with people, including those of different cultures, personalities and perspectives.
- 4. To further EQUIP each one to serve God’s purposes either in or outside of YWAM Family of Ministries, strengthening a commitment to reach the lost, especially the unreached, to care for the poor, and to influence all areas of society.
- 5. To IMPART the vision and foundational values of Youth With A Mission International as well as that of the host operating location and to provide information regarding a variety of opportunities for service.
So long as they do those things, each DTS can be very different. Some are only five months long, some are ten months; some are in one language, some have translation into three; some have a special focus—such as photography, sports, justice and many more.
YWAM Cambridge currently does two DTSes each year: a 9-month ‘Revival & Reformation’ DTS, and a 5-month ‘Revival’ DTS. Both have a particular emphasis on passionate worship & prayer over-flowing in simple joyful evangelism.
The name ‘Revival & Reformation’ comes from our desire to press into the heart of God to see him raise up men and women of a Revival heart to bring Reformation to our world. We will have a focus on helping to establish a house of prayer in Cambridge as part of our DTS together and will spend two hours each afternoon in worship and intercession.
The name also refers to the incredible Christian heritage which Cambridge has, and specifically the student Revival and missionary movement triggered by the Cambridge Seven in the late 19th Century, and the 16th Century Reformation that began with a group gathering in a Cambridge pub to discuss Luther’s controversial rediscovery of the simple gospel.
You could say that what we want our DTSes to catalyse a Revival of Cambridge’s Reformation-al calling and anointing.
9-month Revival & Reformation DTS
Our main DTS goes from September to June. Like the Cambridge colleges, we will have three terms – two teaching terms, and one term of international outreach. In between each term there will be a two week break, during which you will be free to do as you please — return home for Christmas, travel around Europe with friends made during DTS, or stay in Cambridge and relax!. The first term will run from late September until the weekend before Christmas; the second term will run from early January to mid-March; and the third term will go from late March to early June, with a week of outreach preparation before the 9 week international outreach begins — and then a final week of debrief in Cambridge before the school finishes!
For those of you somewhat familiar with the different YWAM DTSes, the Revival & Reformation DTS will be something of a cross between the Fire & Fragrance DTS (with its emphasis on prevailing prayer & worship leading to bold evangelism) and the Urban Transformation DTS (an extended DTS with an emphasis on outreach within the host city).
5-month Revival DTS
Our Revival DTS starting in March is a classic YWAM 5-month DTS, with a 3-month lecture phase, followed by a two-month outreach phase. It will still have our distinctive focus on prayer, worship and evangelism.
With daily prayer and worship and multiple opportunities for weekly evangelism, our DTS will not simply fill your mind with wisdom, but will touch your heart with revelation and empower you to quickly put into practice the things that you learn.
The teaching will include topics such as*:
Secret of Revival: Hearing God’s Voice
Stewarding Revival: Clean Conscience & Fear of the Lord
Cause of Revival: Holy Spirit
Heart of Revival: Father Heart of God
Power of Revival: Prevailing Prayer
Fuel of Revival: Love for the Bible
(*these topics are subject to change)
Many of the members of the YWAM Cambridge team are excellent and inspirational teachers in their own right, but we also invite speakers such as Lynn Green (formerly the International Chairman of YWAM) and Mike Oman, author of My Father’s Heart. Click here for teaching from the Fire & Fragrance DTS in Harrisburg, which shares a lot of our key values.

If you are from within the EU please make sure you have a reciprocal health form or health insurance. If you are outside the EU please ensure you have fly home health insurance to cover your stay in the UK.
We encourage developing a faith based relational support and we work in partnership with your local sending church and friends. Its great to get other people praying and believing in you and your call to missions as we partner together in seeing the call of God released in your life.
We will be following in the footsteps of the great missions pioneers from Cambridge — the Cambridge seven who helped trigger a major missions move in their time. Inspired in particular by the crazy missionary zeal of CT Studd, we hope to send teams to go to China, India and Africa.
Your overseas mission time will give you time to experience another culture from your own, the strength and support of being in a team together and opportunity to minister and reach out to others in love in a wide variety of situations.
On outreach you could find yourself preaching and performing dramatic sketches of the gospel in local churches, or giving Bibles out on the streets, or praying for the sick in a government hospital, or teaching in schools — whatever God calls us to do, we will do!
Here are some testimonies and stories from people who have done a DTS…. click on and find out more….
