About Us
Our history
The Call of the Wild is a ministry of Youth With A Mission (YWAM) England based out of Cambridge, UK.
We were inspired by the story of the Cambridge Seven: seven young men at Cambridge University who felt the unmistakeable pull of God’s leading to reach the lost in China, giving up lives of wealth, comfort and privilege. Their examples inspired a trans-Atlantic missions movement as hundreds of other young men and women responded to the challenge to obey God’s call for their lives above all else.
It’s our prayer and our vision that this generation of young men and women would catch that same vision, and that a new missions movement would come out of the UK once again.
Over the years, our teams have gone out to Estonia, Uganda, East Asia, and England. We partner with local ministries on the ground and join in with mercy ministries, children’s work, Bible distribution, and street evangelism.
Along the way, we have seen the Holy Spirit at work, touching the lives of those we meet and transforming the hearts of our team members.
What is YWAM?
YWAM (pronounced “WHY-wham”) is a global family of Jesus followers from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, and Christian traditions. We are dedicated to knowing God and making his love known to the ends of the earth.
When YWAM first began in 1960, our main focus was giving young people opportunities to demonstrate the love of Jesus to the whole world. Today, we still focus on youth, but we have members of almost every age. Many of our short-term efforts have also grown into long-term endeavours that have impacted countless lives and nations. Today, we work in more than 1,100 locations in over 180 countries, with a volunteer staff of over 20,000.
